Malaysian flight MH17 was downed by a Buk missile delivered from Russia and fired from territory controlled by rebels in eastern Ukraine. This narrative was propagated from day one by the Ukrainian secret service SBU. Most people take it for a fact now. But the MH17 trial has just started. It's not even been established yet a Buk was fired; let alone a Russian Buk.
Was it really a Buk that hit MH17? A Russian Buk? As we've seen in Part I of this article series no radar or satellite data was presented in court showing a Buk or any other missile. Nor did any of the intercepted phone calls presented by the Dutch Public Prosecution Service convincingly demonstrate the involvement of the rebels in eastern Ukraine. Two anonymous witnesses, pre-selected by Ukrainian secret service SBU, have stated they saw the launch of the fatal missile, but they will not testify in court.

In the six years since the MH17 crash many phone calls intercepted by the Ukrainian secret service SBU have been presented to the public; all of them suggesting the rebels in eastern Ukraine are to blame. However these wiretapped conversations have major issues. And in fact, the only person who was caught talking about downing a Boeing was a colonel from the Ukrainian army.
The Dutch Public Prosecutor unintentionally presented evidence a Ukrainian fighter jet downed flight MH17. Subsequently the Dutch court granted an investigation into a 'warplane scenario'.
BBC journalist Olga Ivshina produced a much-discussed report about MH17. She searched for people who had witnessed a BUK transport or missile launch. But all she found were fighter jet witnesses. And much more than were included in her report, a confidential document shows.
The MH17 wreckage was still burning when the Ukrainian secret service convinced western audiences that rebels had brought down the plane. However several persons that for years have been incriminated in the media are not suspected by the Dutch Public Prosecutor and are not standing trial.
